Getting started
1. Connect your monitor
Put your strap on (wetting the contacts helps), open HeartMirror and tap your monitor. It reconnects automatically after that.
2. Allow Apple Health
HeartMirror uses your age and heart rate history to set your zones, and your weight and sex to estimate calories. You can also set max and resting heart rate in Settings.
3. Work out
Pick a program if you want one, then tap Start workout. When you're done, tap Stop workout, choose the workout type and save.
Questions
Which monitors work?
Any Bluetooth heart rate strap or armband. ANT+-only monitors can't connect to an iPhone.
Can I use my Apple Watch?
Yes. Install HeartMirror on your Watch and open it. If a strap is also connected, HeartMirror uses the strap.
My monitor isn't showing up.
- Wet the contacts and put it on. Most straps stay off until they detect a heartbeat.
- Close other apps using it, like Strava or Zwift. Many monitors allow only one or two connections.
- Check Bluetooth access in Settings → Privacy & Security → Bluetooth.
- Still stuck? Tap Forget Saved Device in HeartMirror's Settings.
My heart rate isn't on the Lock Screen.
Turn on Live Activities in Settings → HeartMirror.
Does it work in the background?
Yes. Your heart rate keeps updating while you use other apps.
How are zones calculated?
From your heart rate reserve (the Karvonen method), between your resting and max heart rate. Max comes from your highest heart rate in Apple Health over the past year, or from your age. You can edit both in Settings.
What are 4×4 and Zone 2?
4×4 is four minutes in Zone 4 then three minutes easy, four times, with a warm-up and cool-down. Zone 2 is a steady easy effort for 30, 45 or 60 minutes. Tap the sliders next to a program to edit it.
What's “60s HR recovery”?
How much your heart rate drops in the minute after you stop. Bigger is generally better. If a workout winds down slowly, like tennis, there's no clear stop, so it's left blank.
How are calories estimated?
From your heart rate, age, sex and weight. If any are missing, HeartMirror skips the estimate.
Will it close my Move ring?
No. Apple calculates the rings from Apple Watch data. Your workouts, heart rate and calories still appear in Apple Health.
The app closed mid-workout.
Reopen it within 30 minutes to pick up where you left off. After that, the workout is saved to History.
Do I need an account?
No.
